Florida Lizards
Pictures and review by Jewel

We love our Florida Lizards!

From the time Clash was crawling, he was catching lizards! Then before long, all of my kids were catching them!

They have even had contests with friends and neighbors to see who could catch the most lizards in an hour. I thought the yard would run out of lizards because they were all in the cage in our house! But they kept coming in with more!

There is certainly an abundance of lizards in Florida! Everywhere you look, you see Lizards!

The kids usually keep them for a day before letting them go again, unless they can find crickets to feed them!

This is a picture of a pet lizard Clash had when we lived in New Port Richey, FL. This particular time of year, crickets were easy to find so he was able to keep this lizard longer. He hand fed the crickets to the lizards.

Lizards have lots of different colors (mostly brown, tan, gray, and green) and patterns. Some change colors, some have a ridge on their back, some are small and some are larger.

Green anoles are harder to find...and catch!

Did you know that if you turn the lizard on it's back, it plays dead?

Tiger is happiest when his hands are dirty and he has lizards in both!

We thought this one might be pregnant! Either that or it just finished eating!
Yes, Lizards will bite you!....only if you are holding them or trying to catch them. Lizards are more afraid of people than people are of lizards and they will run away from you and leave you alone.
It doesn't really hurt if they bite you!

It just makes them more fun!

Lizards lose their tails as a defense mechanism to help them escape. My boys very rarely cause the lizards they catch to lose their tails! They are careful to catch them without grabbing hold of the tail.

Yes, even some little girls like catching lizards! Actually, Sapphire likes holding lizards, she usually lets her brothers catch them for her!
