Lake Catherine in Groveland (Lake County), Florida 2004

Rainbows were seen frequently in our backyard!

Fishing was a popular activity! We caught bass, speckled perch, blue gill, alligator gar, and lots of minnows!

Boating, skiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing and swimming were favorite activities in the lake.

Our homemade slip 'n slide provided hours of fun!

This group of Sandhill Cranes lived nearby and were seen almost daily. At the beginning of the year there were only two, then when the babies were born, only one was out and about at a time. Then we started to see all 4 together. There was also a bald eagle who had a nest across the lake and many hawks and other birds were seen often.

These softshell water turtles were seen frequently in the late afternoons and loved to come to eat the bread crumbs we threw in the water for the fish. We also saw one gator in the lake that was a baby and one of our neighbors found a baby gator on their front porch!

The best part of Lake County was the people. We made some great friends and met some great people. Almost everywhere we went, and most of the people we encountered (with a few exceptions) were polite and respectful. Lake County is a great place to settle down, both with a family and as a place to retire. The beautiful rolling hills, natural lakes and people make this a perfect small town place to live and work.
